OutCatch is a free-to-load treasure hunting game, inspired by geocaching, adventure movies, and an old Finnish board game called Great Star of Africa.
The major idea in OutCatch is that the game is played on the oldest and largest game board ever: the Earths surface. So you need to go outside and move your body to play this game!
Game rules briefly:
1. Find caches to get money. The farther you walk or run to a cache, the more points you get.
2. Set caches for other players to get even more points or money (when they are found).
3. For a cache, you need to buy content with earned money: treasure, robber/thief or amulet/talisman.
4. Rise in rank and beat your neighbours, town, and all the players in the world!
Some features:
- You can set caches anywhere in the world by browsing the apps map.
- A cache consists of:
a) A fully visible name (to lure players)
b) Surprise content (treasure, robber/thief, or amulet/talisman)
c) A surprise text (your slogan or some other thoughts)
- GPS-positioning is used in searching for caches. You can see your location and all the squares of the game board that you have been in.
- Every square has a number that is announced by a speaker and shown on the screen. That number tells the distance to the cache in squares. That is all the information you get to hunt for the square containing the cache.
- You cant search for your own caches (what would be the point of that?), so you dont see them in the list either.
- There are TOP20 lists in the game, showing the top players in 3 categories: 1) points, 2) money, and 3) squares for a) all times or b) this week. You can also select the area for the top-list: 1) World, 2) 500 km from you, 3) 50 km from you, and 4) 5 km from you.
- All the information the game needs from you is the nickname of your choice. So you dont have to worry about the fact that the game knows your current approximate location.
- You can listen to your own music while playing OutCatch. Just put on the music and then start OutCatch.
And oh yes: If there are no caches around you (within 300 m-5 km), you can do 2 things:
a) Ask your friends or family around the world to load OutCatch for free and set caches for you. This is the best way to get good caches for yourself.
b) Try random caches. They can be anywhere, so the major risk is that you cant reach them. But it might be very interesting to try (or then you just get mad).
